Virtualisation

What is Virtualisation?
Virtualisation has transformed the traditional view of the IT environment and allows todays powerful x86 computers (x86 is the standard architecture in Intel and AMD Processors) to run multiple operating systems and applications on the same machine and at the same time.

How virtualisation Works
Virtualisation allows you to transform hardware into software. Using software to transform or "virtualise" the hardware resources of an x86-based computer-including the Processor, Memory, Hard drive and network controller-to create a fully functional virtual machine that can run its own operating system and applications just like a "real" computer.

Once created, these virtual machines share hardware resources without interfering with each other, thus allowing you to safely run multiple operating systems and applications concurrently on the same physical machine.

Why virtualisation?

Lower TCO
By creating virtual servers and desktops, this lets you run multiple operating systems and applications locally and at other sites, removing the need for physical servers or desktops at remote locations. Combined with reduced hardware costs, greater server utilisation, increased security and disaster recovery times, virtualisation is a must for any businesses, no matter the size or geographic disparity.

Why are organisations choosing to use virtualisation technology:
  • Server Consolidation - Why buy one server per application when ratio's of 10 virtual servers to 1 physical server have been achieved with hardware utilisation up from 10% to 70%.
  • Operation cost reduction- If your power, operational and staff costs are soaring, it makes sense to reduce the number of physical units you have.
  • Business Continuity - By being able to change, upgrade and move virtual servers with a few clicks of a mouse, you will have a more stable platform to run your business and improve business continuity.
  • Security and Desktop management - Running thin clients is nothing new, but with ever increasing security threats to your data, being able to virtualise your desktops and host them on the server, reduces administration, power and security issues
